Job Description

Maths Academic Coach

Want paid classroom experience before teacher training?

Help KS3 and KS4 pupils secure core maths and strong exam habits.

*** Maths Academic Coach
*** £82 - £101 per day
*** January 2026 – July 2026
*** ‘Good’ secondary school, Ward of Edgbaston
*** 1:1 and small group academic support across the KS3 and KS4 curriculum

The Role:
You will deliver targeted 1:1 and small group support that aligns with the department scheme. You will pre-teach upcoming content, model worked examples and guide practice so pupils build accuracy and speed. You will diagnose gaps with quick checks in algebraic manipulation, fractions and ratio, geometry reasoning and data handling, then address them with step by step routines and retrieval. You will prepare lean resources that mirror classroom methods, track short outcomes after each session and share next steps with class teachers so intervention feeds straight back into lessons and assessments. You will help maintain calm starts, tidy transitions and consistent expectations.

The Candidate & Requirements:
You are clear, methodical and organised. You explain ideas in small steps, notice misconceptions early and keep sessions purposeful.

• Degree, 2:2 or above in Mathematics or a closely related subject.
• Communication, precise written and spoken English.
• Enhanced DBS, held already or willingness to obtain.
• Desire to work in education or with young people, strong intent to progress into Maths teaching.
• Experience with pupils, such as tutoring or mentoring, is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ Edgbaston secondary runs simple, consistent routines so lessons stay purposeful. The maths curriculum is sequenced in small, connected steps with shared methods across classes and regular low stakes checks to spot gaps early. The team co-plans and provides model solutions, diagnostic quizzes and past paper item banks, which keeps preparation efficient and impact visible. New colleagues receive a structured induction, weekly CPD and short coaching drop ins with clear, usable targets. You get the conditions to show impact quickly and build evidence for ITT.
