Job Description
Ready to focus on Year 6 and make measurable progress before teacher training?
Help pupils tighten core knowledge and build exam craft ahead of SATs.
*** KS2 Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £90 - £100 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Central Birmingham
*** Yr6 support in preparation for SATs examinations
What you’ll do:
Run focused boosters in reading, writing and maths. Pre-teach key content. Guide small groups through timed practice and question breakdown. Provide 1:1 catch-up where needed. Prepare lean resources, note quick wins, and agree next steps with the class teacher each week.
Who you are:
Clear communicator, organised and steady under pressure. You explain tricky ideas in simple steps, keep sessions purposeful, and build confidence in reluctant learners.
Requirements
- Degree – 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication – Strong written and verbal skills.
- Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
- Desire to work in education or with children – Real commitment to KS2 progress and fair access.
- Experience working with children – Relevant experience such as tutoring, mentoring or volunteering is desirable but not essential.
The School:
This ‘Good’ Central Birmingham primary is two form entry with calm, predictable routines from arrival to home time. Year 6 has protected intervention slots, common planning and shared resources so support lines up with classroom teaching. Reading is prioritised through daily guided reading and vocabulary work. Maths follows a small steps sequence with frequent retrieval and consistent methods across classes. You will have access to past paper item banks, model answers and simple assessment trackers, which makes planning efficient. New colleagues receive a clear induction, weekly bite size CPD and short coaching drop ins with precise next moves. Leadership is approachable and focused on what improves learning, giving you strong conditions to show impact quickly and build evidence for initial teacher training.
How to Apply
Email your CV and include your availability and DBS status. Add two referees if possible. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief phone screen and an in-school observation. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.
Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
