Job Description

Teaching Assistant – Primary – Complex Needs – South Birmingham
A supportive and welcoming primary special school in South Birmingham is seeking a Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team. This role involves supporting pupils with a range of complex needs, including Autism, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and communication impairments.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide both 1-2-1 and small group support, working closely with the class teacher and a team of experienced staff to create a safe and engaging learning environment. You will play a vital role in helping pupils access the curriculum, develop independence, and build confidence. Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting pupils with complex learning needs in class, in small groups, and on a 1-2-1 basis.
  • Assisting with differentiated learning and adapting resources to suit individual needs.
  • Helping pupils with communication, social development, and emotional regulation.
  • Providing personal care where required.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to meet the needs of pupils.
  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and positive behaviour.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND, ideally complex needs.
  • A patient, resilient, and caring approach.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A commitment to improving outcomes for pupils with special educational needs.
