Job Description

OT systems are deployed throughout Thames Water’s geographical region, enabling the remote monitoring, control, and data acquisition of thousands of water and wastewater collection, treatment and distribution assets, gathering data insight from over 2.1 million data points.  

The demand for Operational Technology solutions across the Water Utility industry is increasing significantly, and it is recognised that OT is critical in enabling us to achieve our strategic goals (including reducing leakage and pollution). We aim to embrace and adopt new technologies to drive a digital transformation so we can exceed our customers’ expectations. 

What you’ll be doing as an OT Network Systems Engineer
  • Act as SME on all matters of Network, Routing and Switching, providing Technical Support for the Thames Water Operational teams as well as the OT wider team.
  • Supporting all Network assets and systems to ensure 99.98% availability.
  • Lead and coordinate the Operational Technology Change Management and Risk Assessment procedure to minimise the impact of Network changes on operational systems.
  • Maintaining the Network Assets, Systems, firmware and configuration standards, processes and procedures to support OT and the operational business.
  • Provide technical support in design and delivery including both high- and low-level design as required.
  • 24/7 Out-of-hours emergency support and fault rectification for the Organisational Management Control room.
  • Identify, get approval for and Implement security improvements.
  • Audit and Management of Network System Security.
  • Audit & Management of Network System Licences.
  • Audit and management of Network Equipment obsolescence.

Base location – Hybrid – Hampton Coal Wharf TW12 2ES.

Working pattern – Out-of-hours call out.  (1 week in 5 once trained)
Requirements for the role – MUST have a UK valid driving licence.

What you should bring to the role

Essential
  • Experience in maintenance or technical delivery of network equipment within a large enterprise business.
  • Troubleshooting, Fault finding, Route Cause Analysis, and Report writing will also be a regular feature of this role.
  • Excellent Microsoft OFFICE skills including email as well as VISIO.
  • A full UK, driving license is a requirement for this role as you will be required to provide out-of-hours support on a standby basis, for which you will receive an additional payment.
  • CCNP, CCNA Minimum, CheckPoint CCSE, CCSA Minimum and the ability to demonstrate keeping up with industry best practices are essential.
Desirable
  • Educated to HNC level or equivalent in a relevant technical area.
  • Good knowledge of IP communications, LAN, WAN and mobile communications including their application, alongside knowledge of, or the ability to learn the industry-specific SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of the water industry, utility sector or similar.
