About the Role

A nationally respected multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with a strong presence across the UK is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Birmingham office.
Known for delivering innovative, sustainable building services solutions, this role offers the chance to lead complex mechanical designs on high-profile projects across healthcare, education, commercial, and infrastructure sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design for a variety of projects including HVAC systems, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water services
  • Prepare detailed calculations, specifications, reports, and design drawings
  • Manage project deliverables from concept through to construction and commissioning phases
  • Coordinate and collaborate with electrical, sustainability, and other engineering disciplines to deliver fully integrated MEP solutions
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff
  • Engage directly with clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to provide expert advice and ensure design quality
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK building regulations, industry standards, and emerging technologies
  • Contribute to business development activities and help strengthen client relationships
  • Promote sustainability and low-carbon solutions within mechanical design projects

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent)
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership (IMechE or CIBSE)
  • Minimum 6+ years’ experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment
  • Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and sustainability standards
  • Proven experience in HVAC, chilled water, heating, ventilation, and controls design
  • Proficient with mechanical design software such as Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and lead technical discussions
