Contract: Temporary Ongoing

About the Role

We're working with our Welsh public sector client to recruit a Communications Assistant to join their Media and Communications team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key part in delivering clear, creative, and effective communications that reach a wide range of audiences - from journalists and stakeholders to members of the public.

You'll act as the first point of contact for media enquiries, ensuring accurate and timely responses. You'll also support campaigns, monitor media and social media activity, and create engaging digital content.

The role is offered on a fully remote basis, with the option of using offices in Aberystwyth, Cardiff, Newport, Neath or Llandovery if preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handle incoming journalist enquiries, ensuring professional, timely responses.
  • Maintain media enquiry logs and assist with drafting press statements, briefings, and media lines.
  • Monitor media and social media channels to identify risks, opportunities, and trends.
  • Produce media monitoring summaries and contribute to campaign evaluations.
  • Support campaign planning by providing insights, tracking performance, and evaluating engagement.
  • Help manage communication tools including forward planning grids, dashboards, and stakeholder lists.
  • Create engaging, accessible content for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads).
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to support their communication needs.

About You
We're looking for someone with:
  • Previous experience in communications, media, or PR.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt content for different audiences.
  • Strong digital skills, including social media content creation and Microsoft Office.
  • Confidence managing multiple priorities and working under pressure.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach.
  • An understanding of Wales, its communities, and the importance of effective communication in the public sector.
Desirable: A qualification in communications, journalism, PR, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Why Apply?

This is a temporary ongoing position offering the chance to build your communications career in a supportive team environment, contributing to meaningful work across Wales.

You'll gain valuable experience in media handling, digital content creation, and campaign delivery - all while working from home.
